Painting with Dad

Painting with Dad

My dad’s kitchen has been red for quite some time and one day over lunch he said, “I’m thinking about painting the kitchen.” The DIYer in me immediately said heck yeah! So the next couple of days we went to Home Depot to look at paint samples and to get some irrigation supplies – that was an experience in itself. I have a soft voice and my dad sometimes can’t hear me even with his hearing aid in….and he had a hip replacement last September. So looking for irrigation parts, telling my dad to straighten up while walking with his walker and slow down – I was getting on my dad’s last nerve. I think after the fifth trip back to the gardening center we lost it and had a quick meltdown. Well, I had a meltdown while my dad looked at me with wide eyed shock. Funny how those meltdowns work because afterwards everything was fine. We picked out some paint samples, finally found the irrigation parts we needed and checked out and left like nothing ever happened. On our way home we stopped and got some sandwiches since it was lunch time and apparently, I was a little hangry.

Once home, I taped a sample to a wall to see what we thought about it while we ate our lunch. My dad immediately said yes! and thought it would be so bright and clean. I moved it to another wall and continued to like the color. He chose weathered white, which has some gray.  We have done three rooms so far and each room we have done, my dad LOVES IT!! and says how bright and bigger the room feels,

I think the movement of painting is really good for him and strengthening his back and legs so he could ditch the walker soon. He wants to take a break after we finish the tv room and before we paint his room. ,,,,,,,,,,I smell cooking Tuesday brewing again.
